Free-Cachers

Free-cachers is a term that i have come up to describe those folks who enjoy the hunt but forgo the act of logging a cache online.

During the maintenance of mine and Lacey's numerous caches (as well as the ones we have "adopted" from careless cachers) something i seem to notice more and more often is the number of people who seek these caches;find the container ,and sign the log but never log it or any cache online. Some of the signatures are actual personal names. I guess these folks didn't have a GC account but stumbled across the cache ,read the disclaimer and went as far as to sign the log with their personal names. This makes sense on the easy "park and grabs" but just as often i see logs in some of my harder caches, some in remote areas that i would have swore would have never been "stumbled" upon. Go figure.
To get the coords for a geocache you must log in to an account so i assume at least the majority of these folks have opened a GC account and enjoy finding the cache but just aren't interested in logging the find online. You can truly say that they are in it for the fun and not for fame or "numbers".

I'd like to hear if others have experiencing the same thing. What is your take on these "free-cachers"?  Any interesting cache stories in this theme?

Re: Free-Cachers

Some cachers just do not want to log their finds. Braskin hasn't logged a cache since 2008, but just noticed that he was on GC.Com on May 31, 2010. I have seen his signature on logs and thought he forgot to log on GC.Com and sent him an email. I realized that he just didn't always log his finds. I think that is great! Everyone plays the game with their own slant.

Re: Free-Cachers

I was talking to some folks in Monroe the other day and they mentioned a local cacher who probably has over 1000 finds, but has logged less than 300 on-line.

I've got 27,000+ finds, but have only logged 1,000 of them online. (Yeah, right......lol)

The longer I fool around with geocaching, the more I come to realize there really aren't any rules about how its done. Some log all there finds (plus some), and others don't log all (or maybe any) of their finds.  Some want only puzzles or real challenges and don't care about the numbers, while others will bypass anything tougher than a 1.5/1.5 because it slows down the number fix.

I guess as long as the cachers are happy  with how they're playing the game, however they approach it is okee-dokee.

Re: Free-Cachers

There are some folks down around New Orleans that use the term Free-cacher to refer to cachers with lots of finds but no hides.
